Tricolorele au câştigat clar şi prima manşă, sâmbătă, la Bucureşti, cu 33-22 (15-11).
Gazdele au început mai bine returul şi au condus cu 3-1, dar România a preluat controlul şi a marcat patru goluri la rând (3-5). Diferenţa a crescut constant pe tabelă, astfel că la pauză reprezentativa pregătită de Adrian Vasile conducea cu 18-10. Galopul de sănătate al naţionalei României a continuat şi în repriza secundă, diferenţa finală fiind de 15 goluri, 35-20.
Pentru echipa României au înscris Laura Moisă 8 goluri, Ana Maria Iuganu 4, Sonia Seraficeanu 4, Bianca Bazaliu 4, Nicoleta Dincă 3, Crina Pintea 4, Cristina Laslo 2, Cristina Neagu 2, Laura Pristăviţa 2, Lorena Ostase 1, Andreea Cristina Popa 1.
Golurile gazdelor au fost reuşite de Elena Gjorgjijevska 6, Elena Livrinikj 5, Simona Stojkovska 2, Leonida Gicevska 2, Sara Ristovska 2, Monika Janeska 1, Angela Jankulovska 1, Sanja Dabevska 1.
Au arbitrat Tatjana Prastalo şi Vesna Balvan (ambele din Bosnia-Herţegovina), iar delegat EHF a fost Svetlana Obucina (Serbia).
România a participat la toate cele 24 de ediţii ale Campionatului Mondial de handbal feminin şi a obţinut patru medalii, aur în 1962, argint în 1973 şi 2005, bronz în 2015, iar de alte cinci ori s-a clasat pe locul 4. La precedenta ediţie a Mondialului, în 2019, România a încheiat pe locul 12 în Japonia.
Turneul final din Spania va avea loc în perioada 2-19 decembrie 2021.
