Victor Mihalachi și Cătălin Chirilă merg mai mult pe apă decât pe uscat și vor cu tot dinadinsul ca la Tokyo să termine primii cursa. Zi de zi caută perfecțiunea la antrenamente și în sala de forță. Și încearcă să se sincronizeze atât de bine încât în canoe să nu se simtă că sunt doi oameni, ci unul singur.
Pe un luciu de apă de lângă București, Cătălin Chirilă și Victor Mihalachi se antrenează din zorii zilei. Au un obiectiv foarte clar: să urce pe podium la Tokyo. Ei vor reprezenta România la canoe dublu 1.000 de metri.
Victor Mihalachi este moldovean de peste Prut, dar vrea o medalie olimpică pentru România. De la zece ani a plecat de acasă cu gândul de a fi printre cei mai buni la kaiac-canoe. Și tatăl său a practicat același sport.
Victor Mihalachi: „Am câștigat multe medalii la campionatele mondiale și europene, însă obiectivul fiecărui sportiv este de a cuceri o medalie la Jocurile Olimpice”.
Antrenamentele lui implică în primul rând sport pe apă, dar și bicicletă, plus exercițîi în sala de forță.
“Săptămânal, noi parcurgem în canoe în jur de 120 – 160 de kilometri. Cu siguranță, în toată cariera mea am vâslit mai mult decât am mers pe uscat”, spune Victor.
În barcă se simte liber, fericit, ambițios.
Victor Mihalachi: „Canoea mi-a dat multe satisfacții, mi-a dat recunoaștere la nivel național, la nivel internațional, m-a făcut cunoscut în disciplina noastră, mi-a adus multe satisfacții personale, mi-a adus stabilitate financiară. Ce mi-a luat, mi-a luat foarte mult timp”.
De 20 de ani, prelungirea mâinilor sale este pagaia. De ceva timp face echipă cu Cătălin Chirilă.
“La început, Victor a fost pentru mine un simplu idol, îl aveam chiar pe desktop pe laptop și sunt foarte mândru că mi s-a oferit șansa de a-l avea ca partener în barcă. De mic copil am fost pasionat de apă, de pescuit, însă la mine în familie nimeni nu a avut o barcă cu care să pot merge pe apă”, mărturisește Cătălin.
Asta în ciuda faptului că vine din Tulcea. Dar, în final, sportul pe apă i-a fost scris.
Cătălin Chirilă: „La fiecare ieșire pe apă încerc să mă concentrez, să fiu cât mai focusat, atât în antrenament cât și în competiții, să iasă treaba cât mai bună și pot spune că mă transform, unde odată cu lăsarea bloc starturilor nu mai pot spune că sunt același eu. Dispar emoțiile și mă concentrez doar pe ce am de făcut în barcă”.
De 21 de ani sportivii români nu au mai obținut un titlu olimpic la canoe.
Ultima dată când România a luat aurul olimpic la canoe a fost în anul 2000 la Jocurile Olimpice de la Sydney. Medalia a fost câștigată atunci de Florin Popescu și Mitică Pricop în proba de 1000 de metri. Pentru această performanță îi antrenase Ivan Patzaichin.
