Halep a revenit după ce a fost condusă cu 6-3, 3-1, numărul trei mondial câştigând apoi 11 din următoarele 12 ghemuri, fapt care i-a adus victoria într-o oră şi 48 de minute, bilanţul său în meciurile directe cu franţuzoaica ajungând la 7-1.
”Ea a început foarte bine, iar serviciul ei m-a deranjat mult, mai ales ‘kick’-ul. Am avut nevoie de timp să mă obişnuiesc şi să intru în ritm. Cred că în setul al doilea am început să mă mişc mai bine. Picioarele s-au mai relaxat şi am putut să alerg mai mult. Aveam nevoie de un pic mai multă forţă, deoarece este o adversară puternică şi trebuie mereu să o împing în spate”, a declarat Halep după meci.
Fostul lider mondial s-a referit şi la problema pe care a avut-o la umărul drept şi pentru care a primit îngrijiri medicale la 2-1 pentru Garcia în setul secund: ”Mă chinuiam la serviciu. Am avut ceva probleme la umăr, aşa că atenţia era mai mult la durere”.
”După pauza medicală m-am relaxat, nu m-am mai gândit atâta la rezultat, am dat drumul la braţ, corpul s-a relaxat şi am început să o mişc (pe Garcia) mai mult pe forehand. Am avut tot mai multă încredere că pot reveni. Când am ajuns la Miami nu simţeam nicio durere … M-am simţit foarte bine. Dar apoi m-am antrenat din greu cu alţi jucători şi am simţit-o din nou. Iar acum s-a înrăutăţit, însă o simţeam numai la serviciu, aşa că am încercat să fac recuperare, să servesc cât mai bine, deoarece azi a fost foarte slabă… Voi vedea cum va fi în zilele următoare”, a mai spus Halep.
Următoarea adversară a Simonei Halep va fi letona Anastasija Sevastova, care a trecut cu 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 de tânăra jucătoare americană Coco Gauff. Condusă cu 6-1 şi 2-1, Sevastova a câştigat cinci ghemuri la rând şi a dus meciul în setul decisiv, în care a revenit de la 1-3 şi 15-40, obţinând victoria.
Halep o conduce pe Sevastova (30 ani, 57 WTA) cu 6-3 în meciurile directe, dar românca s-a impus în ultimele cinci dueluri fără a ceda vreun set. Ultima victorie a balticei datează tocmai din 2011.
“Sevastova îţi rupe ritmul… Nu ştii niciodată la ce minge să te aştepţi din partea ei. Uneori joacă plat, foarte plat. Alteori joacă înalt, alteori cu slice sau scurte. Aşa că este de fiecare dată este dificil să joci contra ei”, a spus Halep despre viitoarea adversară.
“Va trebuie să joc raliuri, să rămân puternică în raliuri şi să îmi aştept şansa să atac. Cred că va fi dificil şi va fi strâns. Îmi plac terenurile de aici şi cred că va fi un meci bun”, a comentat Sevastova, la rândul său, despre meciul din turul al treilea.
