Slovacia are o experiență vastă în ceea ce privește „restabilirea ordinii”. Când partea liberală a populației aude aceste cuvinte, se gândește nu numai la amenințarea unui autocrat precum Viktor Orban, ci și la cei 40 de ani de dictatură comunistă sau la statul slovac fascist din timpul războiului. Dar o parte tot mai mare a populației slovace, alimentată de nostalgie și de așteptări scăzute, este gata să accepte ceea ce promit astfel de regimuri – și, într-un fel, este de înțeles de ce.
În ultimii cinci ani, Slovacia a cunoscut o succesiune de guverne eșuate, crime nerezolvate, proteste în masă, pandemia catastrofală Covid, invazia Rusiei în Ucraina și războiul care a urmat la graniță, un aflux de refugiați din străinătate și o inflație record. Cu fiecare dintre aceste evenimente, apar opinii diferite. Unii pledează pentru libertate, responsabilitate individuală și egalitate; alții pledează pentru un stat puternic, securitate, siguranță și ordinea unui sistem autocratic, scrie The Guardian.
Zilele trecute, a avut loc un atentat la viața premierului slovac Robert Fico. Există o opinie larg răspândită în rândul jurnaliștilor că, indiferent ce se va întâmpla cu sănătatea lui Fico, situația nu va face decât să se înrăutățească. Salvarea vieții prim-ministrului, recuperarea sa, pedepsirea acuzatului, clarificarea motivelor acestora – nimic din toate acestea nu va calma criza din ce în ce mai gravă din Slovacia.
Totuși, acesta nu este singurul act recent de violență politică din Slovacia. În anii 1990, martorul Robert Remiš a fost ucis. În 2018, asasinarea jurnalistului de investigație Jan Kuciak și a logodnicei sale Martina Kusnirova a declanșat proteste masive și, în cele din urmă, l-a forțat pe Fico să se retragă de la putere.

În timp ce politicienii coaliției predică oamenilor să nu răspândească ura, ei înșiși incită în mod activ la ostilitate față de mass-media independentă din țară. Vorbind la câteva ore după împușcături, influentul deputat și aliat al lui Fico, Luboš Blaha, a acuzat în mod direct de atac presa liberală, opoziția și anumiți politicieni.
„Acum, politicienii coaliției fac apel la calm, dar ei sunt cei care arată cu degetul și incită furia mulțimii. Ei cer o securitate sporită, dar promovează legi care amenință nu doar siguranța personalităților publice, ci și pe fiecare dintre cetățeni. Ei slăbesc instanțele, limitează pedepsele pentru corupție și slăbesc instituțiile democratice”, scrie The Guardian despre situația din Slovacia.
Fico și ai săi înțeleg politica nu ca pe un serviciu pentru cetățeni, ci ca pe punerea în aplicare a dreptului feudal la putere și proprietate. Pentru ei, țara este un fief din care trebuie să extragă beneficii maxime cât mai mult timp posibil. Ei sunt gata să schimbe constituția, legile, să introducă cenzura și să slăbească democrația pentru a-și atinge obiectivele, consideră ziarul.
