Partea rusă a predat Ucrainei primele cadavre ale militarilor ucraineni decedați la uzina Azovstal din Mariupol, ca parte a unui schimb de cadavre ce a avut loc pe 4 iunie.

Potrivit Associated Press, zeci de soldați morți scoși din uzina distrusă au fost duși la Kiev. În prezent, se efectuează teste ADN pentru identificarea rămășițelor. Guvernul ucrainean nu a raportat scoaterea cadavrelor din ruinele uzinei metalurgice. Nu se știe deocamdată câte cadavre au rămas la Azovstal.

Regimentul Azov a fost una dintre unitățile care au apărat uzina de la Mariupol timp de aproape trei luni.

Fostul comandant al Azovului, Maxim Zhorin, a confirmat că rămășițele extrase din Azovstal se numără printre cele schimbate între Ucraina și Rusia, în format de 160 de la 160. Schimbul a avut loc pe 4 iunie pe prima linie din regiunea Zaporojie.

Pe 6 iunie, președintele Volodimir Zelenski a anunțat că peste 2.500 de luptători ucraineni de la uzina Azovstal au fost luați prizonieri de ruși după bătăliile pentru Mariupol.

La 30 aprilie, Ucraina și Rusia au făcut schimb de prizonieri, drept urmare 14 ucraineni s-au întors acasă: 7 militari și 7 civili, din care o femeie aflată în luna a cincea de sarcină.

Pe 6 mai, Ucraina și Rusia au mai făcut un schimb de prizonieri. 41 de ucraineni s-au întors acasă – 28 de militari și 13 civili. Printre acestea se numără 11 femei.
